HPI check - What do you get?
In a bid to find out more history on my car I am considering an HPI check. As the car was originally registered new in Germany, does anybody know how much information the check will reveal?
Many thanks for any help.

When i got my hpi done before I brought mine, it told me exactley what the car should be ie, engine numbers, original colour etc, if it was ever imported/exported, stolen, Finance, Inspected, Vcar, Alerts, accidents and previous number plates (if any) on the vehicle. (Mine was all clear by the way!) - Then i went into JZM for a full inspection (where it had a few little niggles but nothing really serious - So I brought it!)
Dont know if that helps with the HPI question?

Agree with reformed completely regarding the HPI (and they insure their results should anything emerge within a certain period- one or two years I think) but JZM discovered 60% losses on No.6 and saved me a few £ !!!!

I had my RS HPI'd before I bought it. It's was a German import, and from memory the HPI only showed info held in the UK, so not much from before it came in. It did say first registered in 1994, but I think this is because that info was given to the DVLA when the car was registered here.

Yes, I want to find out more about mine. I've no idea about it's early history other than that it was first road registered in Italy in 1994, then in Germany in 1999 and imported in to the UK shortly thereafter. Especially interested in the first two years (92-94) as it's a cup car and I don't know if it was ever raced. Have you had any luck at all writing to Porsche?

Over the past couple of years I have spent plenty of money with my local OPC buying new trims and replacement parts and so on and got to know the guy in the parts dept. He did me a printout from his computer which gave me a few dates etc. One thing it did tell me is that it came with Option Code 740. When I asked him what it was, he said he didn't think it was a Porsche Option Code. I went to the German Porsche website and sent an enqiry email to them. After loads of back and forth, they told me it meant the car was an Exhibition Car. I asked them to confirm this, which they did on headed paper. Maybe we chat at Ragley Hall as I think both our cars are in the display.
