Default Deleting rear seat delete

In the interest of removing weight, has anyone done this?

I have the desire, and hope there is another 12-15# of weight to be lost.
Realistic? Using resources as Aircraft Spruce & Specialty, it would seem possible to fabricate a lighter solution.

I removed mine for a few years because of the extra weight and for the available space: hockey goalie pads, occasional person, etc. would all fit no problem. I just reinstalled it this past spring and I prefer having the two extra glove compartments.

neither of my cars have rear seats nor the "deletes" unless you need the out of site storage - the pull it - they weigh more than 15lbs.

Why not pull the seats carpet and padding

leave it bare or cover w/ l/w carpet

the backwall lining w/ speakers, pads etc is fairly heavy

Thanks guys. Looks like an easy weight reduction.

Presently, no seats or padding, but I understand and that's what I may end up doing. Still, I wouldn't think it too difficult to fab a rear shelf, using kevlar or c/f. This would allow a small out-of-site storage area. I'll need to examine the backwall for further losses. No speakers with the RSA.

On a related note, does someone have the rear seat delete box out of their car where they can take pictures from the bottom and sides? I'm thinking about building something like this and would like to see how these are made. I have only seen them on eBay and online stores and they never show the details of the bottom and sides. Pictures would be greatly appreciated.

That box is really heavy. Porsche only put them in because they were afraid people would ride back there with out seat belts. I like it in mine because of the flat load surface on top and I can hide my cmaera stuff on the bins. I removed the foam insulation and replaced it with a light carpet padding to help quiet down the interior. Much lighter than that thick factory matting, but that glue is so hard to get off !

The box is basically 3/4" and 1/2" plywood covered in carpet. The one to replicate is the Euro RS box that has no doors but creates cubbyhole in the seat buckets. A little lighter and a whole lot cheaper to duplicate. I'll try to take some pics of a US version I have out tomorrow. Anyone who needs pics, e-mail me and I'll try to get them out. group911@aol.com

Default Rear Seat Delete

Years ago when I was considering replacing the rear seats in my 1988 911 with a carpeted shelf, Original Fit Interiors offered to make one with carpet that matched the original carpets in the car. The fellow there knew exactly how to make so that look would be factory and the price was reasonable as well. Original Fit advertise in the PCA Panorama and Excellence.
