Default Pitted Fog Lamps...

Any one know how to polish the pits out of the fog lamp lenses ? Mine are quite pitted. I noticed they are made out of glass which makes this a bit tricky... New ones run $165.00 each !

Pete,

I haven't tried to repair any pitting but I would think you could use any glass polish, such as Griot's Glass Polish http://www.griotsgarage.com/catalog.jsp?&SKU=11017

By the way, I have installed a protective plastic (Stongard) over my fogs and headlight lenses. My lenses look good after 220K miles.

No affiliation with above.

I did not see any product for 964 at their site. Did you use the ones shown for 911?

I've tried the 3M Trizact 268XA discs for glass defect repair with and without a special water cooling rig and the fog lamp glass was just too hard. I suppose it might work if you went at it for several hours but it ends up being cheaper to just buy a new fog lamp.

Steve,

I purchased my Stongards about 10 years ago and at the time, they had products specifically for the 964. I just checked the Stongard web site too and don't see any items for our cars either. It appears that Griots Garage is selling a similar product. See http://www.griotsgarage.com/catalog.jsp?&SKU=10232

Go to the above link for PSA headlight guards. I applied YELLOW to my RSA headlights, Looks great and it "meanded" a deep chip/crack. This company has a die to cut H5 headlamps including the 3 "nipples".
