964: OK for big guys?
#17
I'm 6'4" and more than 275lbs.
I had problems with interference of my leg between the shifter and steering wheel even with the seat lowered and using the rear mounting holes.
A Momo or RS steering with an extension would have solved that problem.

I am 6' 1" and 175 lbs and find my head grazes the roof with a helmet on in my sunroof car. I am also a close/upright sitter. I put in an AJ steering wheel with an extension as I have to recline the seat with a helmet on. One more reason those Recaro's are going in....

Ditto on most all comments...
I am 6'2" 195 lbs, and found the cockpit a bit cramped (compared to my previous cars). I just recently moved my seat to the rear mounting holes, and the improvement was substantial. I would really like to add a spacer to the steering wheel to bring in back 2" or so to help with knee clearance and arm reach while reclining the seat a bit more, but I am retaining my air bag for now.

My guess is that he's the guy on the right. Next time you see him, tell him that I like his purse!

One point that may be helpful to you.
The 1989 (first year of 964, C4 Only), has no airbags and the old style lower dash. What this means is 2 things. It is easy to install a smaller steering wheel with a spacer so that you can put the seat back further and still reach the wheel. Also, the lower dash is higher so it does not rub on your legs like it would in a later 964 or 993.
I had a 1992 C2 that I wrecked, and when I picked up my 1989 C4 to replace it, I was pleasantly surprised by the lower dash; I did not know about this or even think about it. The other cool thing is you have the old style ash tray, and not that silly thing that they added to 964's that will not stay closed. And the glove box is much nicer; this was moved lower in later 964's to make room for the airbag.

I have a friend about the size of R6xterra's and two things:
1. I have the sport seats - the extra large bolsters are "uncomfortable for him" and give him trouble getting out, but worse, it pushes his shoulders and arms forward and actually gets in the way of me shifting (esp 2nd and 4th), and
2. that extra weight slows the car down....
Albeit, he does have surprisingly lots of leg room but the head room leaves a little to be desired.

............I used to feel large at 6'4" and 250 before I read this post. I love the way the car wraps around me. It is very comfortable for me with the seat all the way back.....just not for the person sitting behind me!

I'm a lil over 6'4", ~215... with three open-knee surgeries to my clutch leg... ...i fit well; even on long trips. A lot of people tend to ask how I fit in the car and my reply is always, "cause the engine is in the back!"

I'm 6'2" - 230# and fit fine in my 964 cab - no problems with leg room or head room whatsoever and I have an unobstructed line of sight straight out of the windshield. I have noticed, however, that it's a little cozy if another guy about my size is in the passenger seat, as our shoulders will be only a few inches apart. With my wife in the passenger seat, it's no problem at all.
