Default idle up and down

After just taking my idle controll valve off and cleaning with petrol+easystart i still have the same problem. When the car is started the revs go up and down + and - 200, 400 rpm. When the clutch is pressed it sometimes even stalls- would you say it needs a new idle cont valve or is there something else i can try?
Cheers

A DME reset might help. but i would check your throttle cable, i just had a problem i solved (same symtoms) on someone elses 964 where the throttle cable outer casing was broken at the rear under side black tray that bolts onto the centre of the car, the cable was pulled out of the main plastic centre and was pulling very slightly, i thought it was just a shot in the dark but when i put the outer casing back in it cured the tickover. Never stalled again.

did you check to see if the idle control microswitch is being depressed when off throttle?? this is a small switch just left of the throttle body. if it is not being depressed a simple cable adjustment may fix the problem.-tom

Jonty,
Had exactly the same problem a few weeks ago (see my posts on the subject) the local PC charged euro 2600 and STILL did not solve the problem . OK, so here what I did. Cleaned the ISV (just as you have) cleaned all the electrical ternimals by running a sharp knife over each side, not removing metal , just a scrape and clean.
Then removed the air fliter and cleaned the air flow sensor, then replaced everything, again, I scraped clean all the electrical terminals I removed, A squirt of WD40 on the Idle and WOT micro switches. started her up and..runs perfect.. been like that for over a week or so now..give it a try..cost's 'nowt..
Cheers

HI, thanks for the replys. I have not looked for the idle microswitch- ill see if i can find it tomorow....
Choogh- Ill give that a try too, ill go over all the electric contacts, i presume the air flow sensor is just behind the air filter eliment?
Just out of interest, how much is a new idle controll valve?

By pure coincidence, I can answer that question. I just bought one for $255 USD.

Jonty

Has the battery been disconnected or flat recently? If so, i had this problem a couple of years ago. People will tell you loads of different ways to cure it but all you need to do is start the car, let it idle for at least 15 mins. Don't drive it or touch the throttle at all. All of a sudden the brain will reset itself and the idle will become steady. Could be wrong but costs nothing to try!
