Default Help - no spark...I think

My car has been sitting for a long time. Charged up the battery and the motor turns over fine but no fire. Any ideas on where to start trouble shooting?

Thanks

check for spark first. once you see spark or not, you have better direction.

start at coils. first check resistance on both, then if they check out fine, swap coils I and II to different spots, then turn car over and see if that helps. If it does start, coil I is bad but of course you should just replace both coils I and II since they're pretty inexpensive.

once u do that coil swap and come back with a report, i can suggest more unless indycam beats me to it.

Good luck.

Another quick step: If you find you have spark AT the spark plug (and the spark color is BLUE), then pull a spark plug to see if it's wet with fuel (after cranking). If it isn't, then you have a fuel-delivery problem. Obvious question: You DO have gas in the tank (and, hopefully, fresh gas)?

Thanks. I'll try those suggestions. I checked spark with an inductive timing light on one of the spark plug wires.

nothing on each of the coils. The car started a few months ago. I'm parting it out and the only thing i have removed are the clocks. I can't see how that would stop the coils from firing. Any ideas?

There you go , no clock , no fire !

The clock is part of the computer in this car .
If you have a broken clock or remove the clock ,
the cars computer is not complete .

OK, I have removed every gauge (someone is buying them). Do i just replace the clock and not all the others? Or do i need to replace every gauge for it to run? Thanks

Funny you should mension the clock as i relaced 2 bulbs in mine last night, the seatbelt and tiptronic warning bulbs were blown, lights up like a xmas tree now :-)

Not A Thread Hijack: But what does the clock control for the engine not to start?

The alternator requires the clock to be hooked up in order to have something (the warning light bulb) excite it into charging. I'm not sure how that would prevent the engine from starting but I haven't tried it (yet).
