Live ECU remap - worth it?
Im in 2 minds whether to take the car in for a live ecu remap. The car currently has the following:
RS clutch / flywheel
Cat bypass
Cup pipe
K&N filter
Running on 99 octane
90k miles
The engine is resonably dry but the miles are on the high side. I know its better to get a remap after a rebuild but what do you think? The outlay is not that bad but would it be worth it? It has been said that engines could be down about 30bhp at that sort of milage without a rebuild so would a remap just take it up to about stock power? Would i be likely to notice any improvements etc?
TIA

Although Geoff is King of the remaps, but I would recommend a slightly different route although the conclusion is the same. What you need to know is whether the engine is good or not.
I would have a leak down test carried out. A good result there, coupled with a dry engine, no nasty knocks and rattles from the cam gear should mean that you are good to go for a live remap.
As for whether it is worth it, the answer is a very big YES> It will be particularly effective if you are running 99 RON all the time but are you sure you can always get it?

I asked about a leak down test but im not due for a plug change until next summer now, so was just wondering if it was worth getting the remap anyway.
I only stick 99 ron in and im pretty sure i could always get it. There at at least 3 garages near where i work that supply it!
The engine seems pretty dry and there are no nasty knocks/rattles etc so would a run on a rolling road give me a good indication of the state of the engine? What sort of ball-park figure would be acceptable in order for the mapping to be effective?

Thats the trouble, i dont think there are any decent specialist near me that have a rolling road! I didnt want to drive the 200 miles or so, get it tested only to find it was too low down on power. Maybe I'll take a trip next bank holiday or something. Thanks.
