Default what is this symbol in wiring diagrams?

Often times I see a bunch of wires in the diagram that terminate in a small SQUARE, that has a number in it, like "10". What is that symbol?

Is it a main ground point?

I don't think so - those are usually indicated by a upside-down "T" with "MP" and a roman numeral.

I think it's the wiring harness number.

I don't think so - those are alternating black/white "thick" lines that have a little "x/x" like "6/20" right on top/bottom of them. What I've noticed so far is that all the wires terminating in these boxes all have the same color. And now that I think about it, I remember some green/white wires (4 IIRC) that were crimped together - looked it up, sure enough it's one of those boxes. OK, so the little number boxes mean all those wires are just connected to each other.(though maybe not necessarily in the same place as in the diagram, have yet to verify that). Thanks for the input, guys!!!

They are butt splices (I guess), but I'm not clear on the meaning of the number.
How about the pair of lines that run around perpendicular to the schematic lines, and are sometimes black when they cross a line, and sometimes not?
It seems they are trying to designate harness bundles??

Yeah - exactly - splices. Though now that I think about it I THINK one of the ones showing 4 actually only had 3 wires connected - but of course I could be wrong.

Yes I'm pretty sure that the harness double line is black where the wires are in the harness and white where wires that happen to cross it, for ease of diagramming, are not in the harness.

As far as the number for the splices - can't make anything out of it. I've noticed in some diagrams there isn't even a number.

The background for this is is I'm trying to ditch the central informer and that giganto harness that goes under the dash and extends to the instruments, central electic (fuse box), and junk under the passenger seat, for a racing application. I don't need any of the warning lights - some would be "nice" but none are really needed - I just need the analog part of the gauges to work. The only idiot light I need will be oil pressure and I will rig a BIG red light for that outside of the central informer. That harness alone is probably 25 pounds or more. And the fuse box, complete, is pretty darn hefty as well.

I think it means that if you don't understand it, you shouldn't be playing

I went over to the local porsche rapair shop and looked at his book . His had a page that showed all the
little things and what they were . Handy info .
My book was from just 89 and did not have that page .

I have a (real) workshop manual from 1991 but also, for some reason, a separate wiring diagram book for a 1990. In the book for the 1990 (but not the 1991) there is a legend as to what all the symbols mean - perhaps you have that somewhere?

I don't have that - would have been nice - but I think I have them all figured out now
