92 964 Ebay sale - says cleared salvage title
#2
It means that the car was hit and salvaged by the insurance company and then repaired and then, in some states, you can get the car inspected and they will reissue you a clean title. Most of the time this is a bad deal, unless the car is ~40-50% discounted in price, but on occasion you can get a salvaged car which is a theft-recovery and was not hit, just stolen and stripped of bumpers, hood, trunk, wheels, interior, glass, etc. Those cars aren't bad if they haven't been hit or set on fire, etc because it basically means you have a car that was partially taken apart but maintains its full structural integrity.

That's a $17K car at most. It's been "over-molested". May be a good one to buy and drive the tar out of. That's about the only thing I agree with the guy on. The reconditioning doesn't look all that stellar to me, even in the pics - and it still has issues.
Wonder how the title shows in Carfax?

The car was titled 5 times before it was granted salvage title/certificate in 2003. Then it was title twice within 2 months 2004 and one last time in July 06. It looks like any salvage vehicle to me. I guess the Certificate was issued and once the car was repaired and inspected they reissued the title hence the sellers explanation of "clearing the salvage title".

The photo of the odometer looks like its been maybe photoshopped or something. the rest are nice and clear and that one is all pixely and the light looks strange.

I'm glad I found this thread... I was looking at that car and wondered how he washed the title. The pictures and text seemed OK to me... maybe I'm just too trusting? I mean, really, someone selling a used car wouldn't lie to me, would he?
