Thin film transistor, a type of LCD flat display screen, in which each pixel is controlled by transistors. TFT technology provides among the best resolution of all flat screen techniques.

TFT is the type of screen used in most LCD monitor displays, period. I think the 'exceptionally clear' part is because the panel itself has a polished/glossy filter instead of the normal matte ones we've seen on Dell/IBM/Whatever panels since they became popular.
The polished filters are becoming the rage for just that reason - they're so clear. Great for displays where there's not too much ambient light, otherwise the reflections are a bear. Apple's doing it as an option with their new MacBooks and LCDs.
It surprises me that McLaren would opt for the glossy display, as I would think the reflections in a car in full daylight could cause some dangerous problems. Maybe this is just a mockup, or they plan on overlaying a filter as necessary.

I confess I'm a little slow to get on board the digital look, but combining a digital representation of an analog display could not only make it more palatable, but a quicker read for the eye.
