Default Difference between two window switches?

On Pelican, Ebay, Performance Product there a window switch for $13. There's also one for about $30. I there a difference between the two? Has anyone tried the $13 one? In the last 5 years a bought 4 of them at $30 a pop. I need to order 2 more. Any insight? Thanks

I sent the exact same query to Pelican about 5 weeks ago, and I never received a reply.

BTW. Why are you going through window switches like chewing gum? There is probably some underlying cause?

The switches are physically breaking. It might be my heavy fingers, but I think there just craply made and bad design. If the $30 switches are breaking, the $13 switches can be much worse.

they were crap all the way from the early 911's to the 993. It looks like they got them right in the 996 finally.

I'm guessing that heat and age are taking their toll on these. When new or virtually new they were never a problem.

I have had the same problems: Have gone thru 5 of the cheap switches in 13 months!

Pelican Customer service responded as follows:
Dear Randy,
Thank you for your feedback, we appreciate hearing from you. We are
more than happy to take the switches back for you and we recommend that
you purchase the factory switches as they have a much lower failure rate.
If you do wish to return them, please let me know or feel free to call
Customer Service and we will be happy to issue a return authorization
for you. Thank you for bringing this problem to our attention.

Sincerely,

Judy Muller

that's nice but the OEM ones break like that too. (i use to buy the 3 at a time, so i would replace the broken one and have a spare or 2)

I just received one of the cheaper ($12) switches, and it's a dud! The rocker part is only engaged in the pivot points at one side, so it's leaning over, and wont move at all in the window "up" direction.

If anyone knows where to buy switches that are made well, please speak up!

Thanks,
Julian

Guys - repeatedly, this is a Forum topic (only to be topped by "Should I Chip My Car").

Don't continue wasting your money - THIS IS A SIMPLE 30 MINUTE DIY!

Search this Forum for simple instructions and fix it for good! I've done mine, and they function great.

All it takes is a drill bit, 4p nail heads and a tube of superglue. And you get the satisfaction of knowing that it will last.

+3 on the DIY. I fixed mine 9 months ago and have not had a problem. It is probably the only thing I could do on the car without getting a mechanic involved!

I've no problem trying the DIY, but I like to have a working spare beforehand, as an insurance policy. Hence my purchase :-)

As soon as I get a working new button I will do the DIY on the original.

Just a update on what I did with the switches. I know, its been 3 months since I posted this thread, but just today I decieded to repair them. The first one I took apart and repaired like the above link ( may be 10min.). Second one, I didn't even take apart. Just pried the switch far to drill the small hole and put the paper clip in(2min). Both switches work fine but when pressing the switch to close the window it gets stuck in close mode. Is this normal after the fix? Even if it is, I'm ok with the final result. Saved $60, a good dinner with the family.
