Are you sure your engine was completely warm at the time of the test? Sometimes, you car sits and cools for a while before they get to it. These old cats need to be very hot to ensure they do their job.

Can't comment on the gasious mix and whether that portends anything.

How's the new tranny working for ya?

"what's causes this?"

A performance chip with too advanced timing and/or a bad CAT, or too lean a mixture.

You've got to run the sh*t out of it before you go there and keep the cats hot. They smog guy should know that as well. I'm mean keep them HOT....I've failed before and hung out and let it run for a good long time, then let them roll it again and it passes. I usually go for a 20-30 minute run and then have them load it straight onto the rollers.

I also always put in a bottle of the fuel freeze preventative(that I can't remember the name of now?). In a yellow bottle.

Yeah, after reading about the cold cats issue I just sat in my car with it running (after driving it for a while) until it was time to drive it onto the rollers.
