Default Define an Oil Leak - Part 2!

I posted the define an oil leak question on the Yahoo 964 forum too. Taken together 90% said that they were #2 to #3 and would tolerate this on grounds of economy and assuming engine performance was otherwise good. Only two people claimed a bone dry car!

However I wondered where the oil was coming from? Camshaft covers - through bolt seals - oil pipes if so which and where?

Be interesting to hear where your oil is coming from - and could help others locate their source - if there are some frequently occuring common locations!

Ah, you need another numbered scale - where one of the options is "can't be bothered to look"!

Since you've found that 90% of us have some leaking but don't care - I suspect the majority of us also won't care where it leaks from.

I am more worried about the leak in my power steering both front and back. Good thing Dextron 3 is cheap because the steering rack sure isnt

Hi Dave - 90% have some leaking and I suspect do care about it and other 964 issues otherwise why would they read and post to the forum? Rationalising the situation and deciding to live with a minor problem is not 'not caring'. So there!

Actually I expect to get a bone dry car as soon as I replace my 14 year old oil hoses which are the cause of my leaks. My 912 was bone dry after I rebuilt it.

I think it is really important to find the leak . If it a weeping seal that is stable or a gasket thats 99% spit out , changes what you might need to do .
