In Atlanta, if gets really cold only a few days peryear. On the 15 F morning last year, only car that would start of my three beaters and the GF's Toyota was the 911. That makes it better than Mercedes and Toyota for getting you there on a cold day. I run 10W-30 Mobile 1 summer and winterr. No leaks, cranking problems, or other complaints so far.

With 20 w 50 oil its going to be hard to start. That oil will be like mollasses in cold weather.
A couple of years ago when I was running my 944, it went from being +5 to -30 ovr night. The car wouldnt even turn over. I ended up having to put a heater under the engine and blankets over it, to get it warm enough to drive to a friends garage and change the oil.
When you get it started put some 5w30 or 5w50 in it and it will start fine in the cold.

I did wind up getting the car running last night. The oil is 15/50 not 20/50. Not that it really makes a differance. We got a couple inches of snow here so the 964 is out of the question. I filled the 535 with antifreeze and opened the bleeder for a few seconds. so far so good. The 964 is now on a trickle charger, so it's there if I need it.

Europe has had some unseasonably warm weather this year. Its hit ski resorts really bad.
+2 sounds very pleasant but they can keep the rain ! Sounds like Vancouver !!

Geoff, I spent a week of winter south of Stuttgart in a place called Hirrlingen (nice castle off in the hills) and the temp bounced between +5 and -5 and couldn't decide whether to rain or snow day to day! That was a couple of years ago. Now Moscow in winter - that's comparable to Winnipeg!

Spent 2 winters driving a 964 C2 in Norway, no problem in the cold. In fact the heating system was the best I´ve experienced, getting good heat after a couple of minutes. Traction was also very good due to engine placement, although I added weight in the front for added traction during braking (made a big difference)
Used 15 W 50 oil, and coldest morning I used it was -26 C. Had been standing all night outside a cabin in the mountains, and started without problem. Did experience on a few ocasions the door lock problem mentioned above, but a little oil solved this. Also always carefull washing the car, making sure to dry crucial places. Oil in the locks, and run the engine for a little while to dry of the mechanism of the engine spoiler and other running parts. The shifting is always a bit stiff until the gearbox oil warms up a bit. I washed the care more frequently during the winter to remove road salt.
The rule in the cold is always causiously get the car warm, warm up the oil and other moving parts well before using full revs etc. (same as in the warm, only allowing for more time) You feel it so much more in the car during winter time that it needs to wake up. (a bit like us humans in the morning)
But otherwise, these are great wintercars, only a shame that winter wears much more on the cars, and so running costs per mile/km is higher during winter.
