Default Brake issues

I'm a little bummed already.
The brake booster pump has already gone out on the 964.
It was actually leaking when i picked up the car. I just thought
it was the o ring. Is this a big fix money wise?
Any ideas where i can pick one up?
Thanks

PO had the brake booster pump and relay changed back in '99, along w. bleeding the brakes, etc. The bill was for $1,958. It was 8 years ago, so I don't know how accurate that information is.

Good luck with the repair.

New ones are pricey. You should be able to find a salvage one for $300 or so.

Ouch.....I just talked to the mechanic..
He's looking at a used one right now. I might driver the car
without the pump for a few weeks.

No! The brakes hardly work without the pump .

I wouldn't drive the car without the brakes if I were you. Better safe than sorry.

uh-oh------had the same thing happen to me 2 yrs ago on my 90 c4 cab. when i went to pick it up in the spring in my buddy's garage i saw fluid on the floor in the front, and thought he had spilled something---wrong. had it looked at, tried new o-rings, but got progressively worse. eventually got a used one from german auto dismantlers (somewhere in georgia), and this solved the problem. as memory serves me this is a very expensive part---even by porsche standards. looked all over the web and found very little information--there was a place in new jersey that rebuilt them for a like 300 bucks, but i didn't feel right sending the part out. be careful---i think the c4 pump is unique to this model. when browsing through ebay i have seen some for 964s that were not even close to the same part. this was such a PIA that i am always looking for one to buy as a spare just in case. i think i paid around 500 bucks including shipping to get the part. simple to fix---finding the part for a reasonable price is the problem. when is called a porsche dealer, i was quoted a price of almost 2000 bucks for a new one (hey--this was a dealer). best of luck---tom

The pressure switch can leak too. Much cheaper than replacing the whole pump.

"Can i send it out to get the motor rebuilt?"
Yes and no .
Some parts are fixable , some parts like the pump head shaft seal I have not ben able to find .
I ask porsche . They say are you crazy , we don't sell parts , buy the whole thing .
I asked ATE Germany , they said we only sell repair parts for that pump to porsche .
I asked the maker of the seal , they said we only sell them to ATE .

I will look at your pump , if you send me your pump plus all postage back forth and around .
I can open your old pump up and have a look see at it .

Do you have a digi camera ?
Do you know about "Private Messages:" ? Upper right hand of your screen .
