Question Rim/Tire Advice and Poll: How many of you use 18" tires on your daily 964 driver?

I have a 92 slightly lowered C2 (lowered using Eibach springs), and am hoping to convert to 18” rims/tires: rear 18.0 x 10.0 (offset 65); front 18.0 x 8 (offset 50). I have been told to avoid spacers and rolling fenders if possible.

Possible rims: http://www.carmodifier.com/default.a...23&wheelID=660
Or: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/18-8-...62644251QQrdZ1
(I wonder if these are the same? Are these possibilities?)

Q: What width of tire can I get away with on the rears? 265? 275? Or is 255 the max?

Out of curiosity, how many of you use 18” tires on your daily driver?

Thanks.

I have 18" running 225 on the fronts and 265 on the rears. You will need to fit spacers (mine are 18mm - dependiing on offsets.) They do fit and they do not rub under normal conditions).

Personally I would stick to 17" for a daily driver as the ride can be a little hard.

I'd agree with Andy, the ET65 rears will need 18mm spacers - otherwise they'll contact the RH oil pipe. 265s are the most you'll get on a narrow bodied car on 10" rims. 225 is ideal for the front but you'll get chassis rub on full lock unless you fit the larger steering stops (or fit 5mm shims).

Regards

I've got 18" 265's on the rear of mine on 10" wheels with ET47 - lowered below RS ride height, no rubbing - but you WILL need 18mm spacers for your rear wheels. Rolled fenders, flattened oil pipe. In fact, I think I could go just a little bit wider (275's). There's no reason to be afraid of rolling your fenders (which you will probably have to with 18x10's if you plan on lowering it at all), as long as you do it with a machine, not a baseball bat.

I've got 235-18's on the front of my car (18x8, ET50), no rubbing problems, except on the inner fender liner every now and then on full lock (sometimes it rubs on full lock, sometimes it doesnt?) Anyways, I just avoid using full lock, and I'm not too worried about installing larger steering stops.

NO rubbing otherwise on either the front or rear.

Heres a picture of my car with similar wheels to what you are looking at

Thanks everyone--this is VERY useful as I figure out whether or not to go to 18".

I am not sure why, but one tire shop I spoke with did not think much of ever having to use spacers. His reasons did not seem clear. Any advice? Are there anticipated problems with using spacers? They seem common enough, and haven't come across issues in trying to research this.....

Spacers have a bad reputation because some designs put extra stress on the wheel studs and can cause them to fail. However, if you get the kind that bolt to your wheel studs, and then bolt to your wheel seperately, they are much stronger & safer. Maybe somebody else can more thoroughly explain this to you.
