"At low speed if I give it gas it will buck, even backfire... Ever since the 60M service."

1. Always try and correlate a problem to a recent occurence, e.g. 60K service.
Could the tech have done something during the service?
2. If the charging is low, then the alt. needs to be replaced. They generally last 60-80K.
3. If the tech R/R'd the spark plugs, he could have not put a plug connector on properly
or damaged a connector by pulling incorrectly the connectors. It's the ignition system
that causes many 964 problems besides the alt.

So, try and isolate the possible ignition problem by disconnecting each ignition system
at the each ignition module one at a time, i.e. the upper plugs & then the lower plugs.

I don't have it back yet.. Someone musta told them my house is paid for The alt isn't back on it yet, there's apparently a steel fan behind the alternator that wouldn't come off the shaft, gotta get a new one of them first.

Got your mail Indy, yes you are welcome to the old wires under the condition that you never tell me any of them are any good. Send me your address
.

I wish the rebuilts came with that fan .
Send in the old alt with the fan in place , get the rebuilt with a fan .

I just got the call. He's been 'testing it' for nearly an hour, it's 100%. The shop owner has driven it home twice before and said "It's a whole different car, you're going to be very pleased" He's not the type to say it if it weren't so.. I'm psyched...
Damages; $2507.00 said'n'done (which also included new Conti's on the front) My mental guesstimate was off by $7.00

Bosch/Porsche used Loctite 270 on the nut for the plastic cooling fan at the rear of the alternator. You need to use a tiny bit of heat to "melt" the loctite and then you can use a gear puller if the fan won't pop off easily.

Pleased to report I made the trip in 15.5 hours. Not a shutter, sputter or backfire! Did manage my first ticket in about 10 years, 3 miles from the last exit

Indy, I shipped the wires before I left BTW

Glad you made it down ok. When I came back up 95 last sunday from Miami the FHP was all over in that area. They were tag teaming with the second car stopping people that did not move over when passing the original traffic stop.
