Price opinion needed. '92 964 in Rennlist classifieds with 77K miles for $25,000.
There's 1992 polar silver 964 in the classifieds for $25,000. It has 77,000 miles on it, a new clutch, new CV boots, all records, been hit in the rear, good paint, bent front grille, Bilstein sport shocks. St. Louis location. This price seems a bit high by about $4,000. What do you guys think?
Thanks for any help!
Excellent condition 1992 911 (964) Carrera 2 in Polar Silver with Marine Blue interior. Just under 77,000 miles. Options include: Partial Leather Seats, Technic package, Porsche Crest Rim Caps, Cassette Radio w/ CD 'GT2', Sport Seats with Electric Height Adjustment, Rear Window Wiper, On Board Computer, and Polar Silver Metallic Paint. Very complete records, very straight car with new pads and rotors, recent clutch job, new Kumho MX tires, and Bilstein Sport struts. Fantastic driver!

I agree that it a bit high especially if it has been hit. That said though, $25,000 is just a place to begin your negotiation from. Using the rear ender may give you some leverage. Just my opinion though.

I have the same car, garage-kept since new, just turned 59,000 all-highway miles, well sorted mechanically and cosmetically, and zero collision history. I don't think it is worth $25,000. This car has 18,000 more miles, been wrecked, and has the bent front grill. There are probably other cosmetic problems if fixing the grill was too much trouble.
How well documented is the "hit in the rear"? How severe was it? The engine is in the rear, so body-shop cosmetic repair is not enough if the engine was pushed out of place.
Pricing a car many thousands above market just to have "room to negotiate" is insulting. If the person wants to sell, he/she must meet the market. If they really don't want to sell and are fishing for a higher price, they are wasting both your time and their's.
Your $21,000 estimate is generous unless the car is a lot more special that available information indicates.

Thanks, guys. The seller has someone who will offer more than what I think this car is worth. I must say I really like the pricing sticky. When I saw that people paid less than $25,000 over two years ago for a car with 50% less mileage, I knew I had better ask the 964 board. Nice idea for the pricing thread and props to Jeremy Pinsley.
So, does anyone care to venture where the price should be for a car like this?

Here's a real world data point: earlier this year I sold my 92 964 C2 coupe, 76K miles, for $21,xxx to $22,xxx (I can't remember the exact price). Mechanically sound, with recent clutch, no oil leaks whatsoever. The interior was in excellent shape, the exterior had a number of rock chips in the front but was otherwise good.

The used market seems to be turning in favor of the buyer. At least that is my perception at this time. Likely a sign of a stronger economy than was present at the first of the year. Assuming the car is fairly represented, and noting the StL location, $23.5k

17k MAX, that if the car was repaired right. think about resale down the road, higher miles and a carfax alert for a wreck. Run Run Run unless its in the 17k price range. it took me 1 year to sell my first 91 ,964 because of a previous side impact that was fixed right (new door and fender). the car had 90k miles,17 wheels, all maintenance and run like a champ. i ended up selling for 15k. 1 year !!!!!!!!

Been hit in the rear could cover a whole range of damage. I have been hit gently in the rear which left a slight image of the licence plate of the offending car. I also was hit in the front when a girl gently backed up when the train crossing guard started coming down. In both cases it was minimal damage to the bumper covers, with no damage beyond that. Both people thought the mark could be buffed out. However, the bumper covers can not be reworked, they must be replaced. The rear was near $3000, and the front just around $2500. All work performed by the body shop well recognized for Porsche work.
If the damage was cosmetic in nature, like mine, then under $20k seems good. If any structrual damage involved, pass.

stevepaa, i do agree with you, but once insurance pays for the damage, it sends a red flag to carfax.
now try convincing the prospect buyer it was what it is. having an accident report on carfax will not stop the car from selling, but it will scare off 80% of interested buyers especially enthusiasts.
on the other hand, it could be a great car, but for 25k, i think there are better choices.

Another pricing point for you. My son just bought a very stock 96 993 with 62,000 miles on it for $28K. It has new H&R springs/Koni shocks, front spoiler & rear supercup style wing, 2 sets of wheels and it passed its PPI with flying colors.
