I fitted the Autothority MAF and the chip that came with it on '91 964. I bought the unit second hand and it has been on the car for about 2 months.

It seems to offer a faster throttle response and it "MAY???" offer more horsepower above 4500rpm. Most noticible is the nice intake noise it makes above 4000RPM. I believe the chip supplied also raises the maximum rev limit by a couple of hundred RPM from standard. My idle now sits at around 1200RPM and thought this has not been a problem I would prefer it at the normal 880RPM-this "MAY" be the a consequence of the new chip. I think with some exhaust mods it will work better-time and dollars will tell.

In terms of value for money I am not sure that it makes good dollar sense-certainly at full retail (US$1770) I would not buy it. Also I tried to get some info from the manufacturers about the unit I bought but they completely ignore my emails so don't expect any help from Autothority if you buy a second hand unit (I love it when I have the chance to make a point about good or bad service).

The unit fitted well, looks good, sounds great but I agree with what Adrian Streather says "reduce the weight of the 964" for best value - I believe the MAF is expensive horsepower.

If I can help further help "PM" me.

If you're chip is second hand as well.... I think there is a possibility that it 'may' not be for the camshaft you have.

I just installed a used Autothority MAF and chip on my '90 C2 TIP. I liked the wide open air path, no restrictive "barn door" in the way, just a straight thru 3" diameter pipe. It feels marginally better down low, but I wouldn't expect much because the throttle valve is still restricting the airflow as ir opens thru the low to mid range. I FEEL that there is better response and a bit more Umph up high in the RPM range. I did before and after runs with my Escort G-Timer and the gains were slight, but again, 0-60 and 1/4 mile are more Torque related, not necessarily HP related. The G-Timer does show ~11 HP gain at 47 MPH, I'll reserve judgement till after a real Dyno run in late spring.

As to the idle RPM, I had (2) chips to choose from, their (Autothority) standard chip and their one for the lightweight flywheel. Having a TIP, I felt that the LWF chip would possibly be a better fit since I have to contend with the torque converter. Yes, that raised my idle RPM to a little over 1000 R's, but it wasn't too dramatic to be of concern.

All in all - was it worth it? I'm still on the fence with that call.

That makes me feel better-I also have a light weight flywheel and the Autothority chip I installed was marked as " C2RS$HW6.EXI" and the same as you the idle has not concerned me too much.
That fence we are all sitting on could get crowded soon but at least we should all agree with each other.

Twood's kit use to be my kit and I still have the original bill of sale. The previous owner built the car during the winter period and everything was purchased to work together. Car had no cams. Yes I do agree that 1200 is high but that's the way it was designed. Good or bad, I couldn't say.

See my post #11 on this thread from 2003. https://rennlist.com/forums/showthre...utothority+maf I took mine off because it bumps you 2 classes in PCA racing....the only mod that will do that, so it must do something. I sold it, but would still have it on if I didn't plan to race. I posted on a number of threads inclulding this one where GP found some good hp if I am reading it right: https://rennlist.com/forums/showthre...utothority+maf

I had the primary and then cat bypass which helped I'm sure. I did have an idle problem, but thought it was worth it every time I stepped on the gas.

***All of that is purely subjective though and I realize that. I never got around to a dyno for my car so I really don't know what it was worth hp wise. I found it worth the $1,200 I paid for it in '03.
