964 speedometer removal
Hi
How do I remove the speedo from the dashboard to change a bult? The display light has gone out.
I tried to pull it out, but it will not come out
THanks

Over time they get harder to pull out. Sometimes it's easier to start with the clock. If you can get the clock out you can then work your fingers in that hole and push the speedo out from behind.
I have been succesful using a large screwdriver, but instead of levering it out, once you get the blade under the bezel pull straight back toward you until the gauge begins to move. After that you can get your fingers on it and pull it out. Good luck.
Dull side of a butter knife and Armor All for lube. But as Edgy01 says, find a looser gauge and work your way to the speedo if it doesn't move easily. Also, the dash in a 964 comes out pretty easily (if you have a Becker-compatible radio tool for the center air vent). If I remember correctly, there are some holes on top of the cluster to pop out the gauges.
Hi to all
Thanks for the response. I did manage to get the left most gauge out, and finally got to the Tack.
I had to replace one of the bulbs so that the OBC would illuminate again. Ended up using bulbs from a BMW (1.2W vs. 0.9 for the 911) but I removed the directional signal bulbs, replaced these with the 1.2 and used the 0.9 for the OBC.
Used a little seal lube on the rubber seals around the gauges to make the next removal easier.
Again
Thanks for the help.
