I'm looking at importing my Turbo 3.6 into Australia at some point next year and having seen the necessary importation details i am wondering what the value of my car would be in Australia.
Seems i need to use either the purchase cost less compounded depreciation or a 'landed value' as the basis for GST(10% possibly waived in Vic.) and Duty/Luxury Tax.
The car is a 1993/4 Turbo 3.6 with approx 30,000/35,000 miles and would be headed for Melbourne.
Can anyone help with some valuation estimates figures for similar cars for sale or valued for insurance in Oz.

Hi Steve,
Try PM'ing Kevin Ross. He is a Rennlist member and until recently had a similar car to yours in Melbourne.
About a year ago there was a 3.6 Turbo sold by Weltmeister for about $136,000 AUD. Imports tend to sell for around 10-20% less than "Australian" cars.
Redbook prices tend to be for cars that haven't been well looked after:

There are a couple for sale at the moment:
Car 1
car 2

Having looked at the whole situation, the amount you actually pay tax on bears little semblence to the value of the car in Oz except to say that you woulod expect to pay tax on about half of it's real value.
You need to get the car valued by an approved valuer. You ahve a choice of who you use so most valuers are looking to give the lowest value they can get away with. If one valuer is known to value high, he wouldn't get used.
It also seems that Red Book values are used more than adverts for similar cars. Adverts only reflect what the owners hope their cars are worth![Wink](https://rennlist.com/forums/images/smilies/wink.gif)
Bottom line is that on my 964RS, I hope to pay tax on a value of less than Au$50k while I think it would sell for over Au$100k.
