Default Rear tires: 225/45/17 -- Too thin ?

Hi,

I just purchased a 1990 Carrera 4

The car is in perfect condition, but the tyre sizes are not correct as I see

It has 17" wheels with these tyres:
Front - 215/45/17
Rear - 225/45/17

I know it should have:
Front: 205/50/17
Rear: 255/40/17

As I see, the front is acceptable, but the rear is too thin for my taste -- What do you think ?

The tyres are almost new, so it makes it difficult to take a quick decission if change them or not

Are the rear wheels the right size? A 225 is pretty small for a 9" rim. They may have put a 7" rim on the rear (which would be wrong).

I run a 255/40/17 rear and 225/45/17 front.

Adrian Streather comments on the 215 tire size as not advised for the front of a C4. I don't recall exactly his words and couldn't locate them quickly in his book.

However you may consider selling the existing 215/45/17's, moving the 225/45/17 to the front and purchasing 255/40/17's for the rear.

If you don't already have Adrian's book on the 964, that should be your first purchase. Valuable information that has been put into one place. The book will answer many questions regarding your Porsche. I don't think anyone has ever regretted having this book.

By the way...welcome. Let's see some pics of your car.

Thanks for the reply

I'll sell the tyres and get RE05A Pole Position

Good price and nice treadwear !

What do you think ?

On the other hand, yes, I purchased Adrian's book last week ! But will receive it until next week...

Looking forward to receiving this 964 Bible
