Default Silver Hood Crest

Well here's how it has gone. Went to the Metal plater and they plated my old gold badge nickel. Looks pretty good considering it cost me $50 CDN, compaired to over $160 USD for one on-line.

The lighting is hard to get perfect but the new badge looks silver not pink like the picture shows.

Did you re-enamel it or did they plate it with the enameling on? Personally I like gold... But on your silver car I'll bet the silver looks great!

They left the enamel on. But I am not too happy with the final result. I may have them strip the whole thing, then plate it. I can apply the enamel after. He said they wouldn't charge me if I wanted it re-done.

Looks good to me! Maybe in person you can see flaws but the pic looks great.
Nice... and thanks for sharing the results.
I know it's a little sad but I was just wondering about this project yesterday.
Maybe my wife is right... I need professional help.

Personally I would shop around until you find the silver (it can be bought much cheaper than $160).

Btw, it just isn't possible to take pictures of the silver badge and have it look close to how it does to the naked eye. I see so many posts with pics of silver badges and they all look gold or salmon so don't worry ....you are not alone!

It aint over yet

I am taking it back tomorrow to have him replate it. Some spots are flaking. In order for it to be done properly I think it needs to be totally stripped and then have the enamel put on later.

This means I get to try my secret techinque for paint application on the real tiny, hard to get spots

Well didn't need to use the technique. The enamel stood up to the polishing required to nickel plate the badge. I added a little bit of smoke clear coat because the shine was still a little to BLING BLING for my taste.

Here are a few pics
