964 RS - The Perfect "Ring" Car
Asome of you may know, the Editor -at - Large of Evo magazine (top petrolhead rag!) has spent his own hard earned cash on a 964RS. Now, that might make him a little biased but here is what he had to say about taking it to the "ring".
Given the cars he has driven there and the choices he could make, I would say that is a bit of a compliment. Eat your hearts out, GT3 owners
The (964) RS feels more at home on the Nordschleife than any car I've ever driven here. Normally you come away from the place fully versed in you car's dynamic weaknesses, but the RS shines brighter than I dared hope, with the perfect blend of poke, poise and lap-long pace.
Even a 400bhp 996 GT3 RS has to think twice before trying to out-drag us into the scary kink under the bridge, which amuses me no end.

I've driven every new car on the market for almost 10 years and I bought a 964 C2 as my only personal car. It's no RS but the 964s core competence, quality, poise and performance are undeniable and still competitive with todays sports cars.

Wild-arsed guess would be somewhere around 8.15 BTG?
One of my most enjoyable passenger laps on the Ring was in a 964RS. At the start a GT3 pulled away from us (any halfway decent driver in a GT3RS should be able to stay ahead of a 964RS there, the kink is not *that* scary), but we managed to catch up by the half-way point
Going into Eschbach the back stepped out a bit more than usual, providing a some extras to the soundtrack, and provoking a small content smile in my driver when he caught it just so without slowing down much
Here's a picture of the car:
Most impressive feature IMO are the brakes. Every time I get in one, the braking for the first tight righthander gives me that "I want one" feeling
Cheers,
