Hi All

Ok time to stop being a voyeur! I've enjoyed reading all your posts for several months now and I thought I'd better pull my finger out and say hello.

I bought my 1990 C4 in Feb this year and am completely addicted. So far I have spent at least £5,500 on her (most of that being a top engine rebuild) and I have identified at least another £4k of 'nice to have' work and accessories that I might have to 'invest' in.

Cheers,

James

James,

Welcome. Being in Berkshire you should be a good candidate to join our SE Rennlisters meets from time to time. You should have been in Swindon last Saturday!!

Look forward to seeing you and the car in the flesh some time soon.

Regards

Dave

You can't possibly have that private number plate without moving the spacing!

Nice car though - and already with clear indicators.

If you've only identified £5K of nice-to-have, you're really not trying hard enough.....

Thanks guys. Yes was really disappointed to miss the Swindon meet. But didn’t have wasted weekend as I managed to persuade a mate not to buy a Honda S2000, instead I got him to buy a 1993 C2 from Roly! V keen to make the potential JZ meet though, and any SE Rennlister get together.

What's the rules on number plate spacing? Actually I think I know the rules but are they ever enforced? I’ve avoided changing it so far as didn’t fancy an excuse for the plod to pull me over every 5 mins!

Ha ha, white indicators were the first enhancement. The wish list now includes the xenon kit, bit of paint work attention, new rear speakers and a suspension upgrade. Worryingly though I've just added ninemeister.com to my favourites list!

Nice car! The clear corners look great on that color. I love the plate!

That is a nice looking 964! I really like the way it looks... color, wheels, clears, rear top spoiler...
Nicely done!
Why the top end rebuild? Was there something wrong?

The car belonged to a colleague who has 2 young kids. He took in into the garage that DaveK once used who put the fear of god into him by saying that he needed a complete engine rebuild as it had a ticking cam shaft or something. Think he felt a bit guilty raiding the kid’s piggy banks so I swapped my BMW 330 with him and took it to another specialist for a second opinion. Turned out to be a new bracket for the exhaust that was required!

Anyway then I got the bug, since they were looking at the exhaust it seemed rude not to consider a cup pipe but then it needed a service and was a bit rattly and was dripping some oil at 113,000 miles. Since I felt I had got a bit of a steal I decided to get the top end rebuilt and make sure I had a great example. So it wasn't really necessary but I do about 1,000 miles a month in her and she’s my only car so I am confident I am now seeing the beneifits!

Only annoying thing I have that is stopping me spending more money on nice-to-haves is the exact same problem as Dave describes here https://rennlist.com/forums/964-forum/21896-abs-problem.html

Hopefully it is a dirty sensor as it has been on the hammer etc and no fault is logged. Booked in for inspection next week, and if a new control unit is required she'll be getting no more treats for a while!

James,
Well done on using your 911 as a daily driver. Not like some who keep them swaddled in blankets only for fair weather.
Rock on dude!

I bought a private plate within the first year of owning the car, and my spacing is non-standard - it's 3 letters, 4 digits but is spaced as : xxx xxx x.

It's never caused me to be pulled over in over 4 years. When I bought it (via internet) and asked for that spacing I was told "you know you can't use it on the road don't you?". I replied yes, and they said "That's OK then".

Dave, does it sail through the MOT or do you have to change the plates over? Thanks.

Not sure I've ever had a car that sailed through an MOT.... but yes - it passes without me changing the plates.
