Default hood badge restoration

Has anyone done it?

What brand enamel did you use and what paint code was it? (looking to do maroon not red)

Did you clear coat it as well?

Thanks in advance

Please don't think I am being rude but it seems a bit cheapskate. Why not just buy a new one. At least over here they aren't very expensive

Because he wants to do it Maroon, not Red.......

No idea myself, but my lacquer is starting to peel, so I'm interested to hear what you get up to.

I want a silver one and I cant justify $165 USD when I can get it nickel plated here for $80 CDN.

I would imagine that you could strip it and take it to a plating company for less money! This would open up several types of finishes. Gold, silver, nickel, brass, copper, etc. As far as the paint type... I'm not sure that it is plain ole' enamel. The paint it transparent, at least on the ones I have and have seen. It almost looks to be a transparent plastic that has been melted/baked into place. If you really wanted to try it you could strip off the finish with a chemical stripper and then repaint and bake the badge. It might be fun to try with an old one!

I paid about $25 for an original one so you can see why I made the comment!

Thats the plan, I am going to get it plated here and paint it myself. I found Tamiya has a clear red enamel. I am guessing from the images i have found, the gold badges make the clear red look more maroon and the silver makes it look more of a true red.

I will post some before, during and after shots as I do this mod.

Cool! This should be interesting to see.
That horse looks like it will be tough... at least with my aging eyes... without a magnifying glass

Mask the area with wide masking tape... Cut out the parts you want to paint... Paint it... Peel and bake... Beats doing it by hand with a small brush.
