Default Steering Wheel Advice please

Will a modern 996 steering wheel fit onto our 964's?

And if it has an airbag will it be compatible?

I am currently looking for a replacement steeringwheel myself. I have found the following options to be interesting: Techart wheel (Techart and Carnewal sell these) and RAID wheels (cheaper option, sold directly and several Porscheshops such as FVD).

If you do a search on Raid you will find several interesting treads including pictures of several options.

If you can live without the airbag, I would go for an original Tequipment 3 spoke as used on the 968CS. Super wheel at about £300.

I got mine from Southbound in Stockbridge.

Failing that I would seriously reconsider changing an airbag wheel simiply because the only way to test it is to drive into a wall. Expensive and you would still have to replace it.

Yes, the 996 3-spoke will fit!

But you have to replace the steering rack and all parts around it, like the switch unit for signs and whippers, the casepart for the unit and the work is a little bit tricky with drill out the special screws, etc.!

But in my eyes it is the bes lookig steering wheel for 964 and 993!

Greetings Christian

Yes, Christian, that does look great!
Can you specify the parts required to make it work, as well as the process? You mention steering rack replacement, but I don't think you mean the actual rack that drives the tie-rods, correct? Also, does your airbag function with the existing control unit?

I can't be bothered with custom work, I just want a direct fit. Often you just need to replace the s/wheel adapter (like with the RS or Clubspeed) but no work needed re. wiper stalks etc.

So to fit the 996 wheel, you definitely need all the custome work?

It is very likely that I will spend my money on this baby (although, without the carbon):

To me the best looking steering wheel period.

Yes, you have to change the parts!
It is work but it is plug and play and all parts are Original Porsche!
You only need to change the 964 parts to 993 parts!

There are some great 3-spoke steering wheels on the market but at least, in my eyes, they all look a little bit "tuning"!

The 996 3-spoke steering wheel ist original and thats my first choice!

I will look after part numbers and i will make some pictures from the parts and a little instruction!

Sorry for my poor english!

Greetings Christian

Christian, That really looks nice. I'd like to seem some more pics of your interior if you did all that to upgrade your wheel. More details!
