For my winter setup I am going to use the stock D90's I got with my car, with some good hi-perf winter tires (I run Dunlops on my quattros with great success).

I have been playing around with painting them to improve the look.
I am no Photoshop pro. This was created with simple "paint" program. I think it looks pretty good but of course might look weird as it will only be 2 dimensional.

Any feedback welcome. I may just keep em stock as they are in good shape.

 

It's an interesting idea and I'd love to see what a set like this look like finished.

 

Yipes, don't do it! Simple nice clean d90's are the ticket in my opinion.

Go for flat black with a silver lip.

Good idea - that is my other thought as well. And maybe run with the silver caps with patined centers, picking up the lips?
