Default Wood for drivers footwell?

Anyone know if you can order the Porsche part for the drivers footwell that is made of wood that covers up the wire chase, etc? Or does anyone know of a cheap alternative? The rennline one is $$.

This is the part seen on Cup Cars for instance:

I purchased a sheet of diamond plate aluminum from Home Depot for ~$30 and cut out my own. check out the pic on my website. You could probably do something similar to replace the wooden piece under the pedals. The aluminum was pretty easy to cut with a jig saw.

Replacing the wood is on the list of winter projects as well as doing the same for the passenger side.

The wood part I speak of is a replacement for the sound deadening below your feet, the factory cup cars had such a part, although I am not sure it's actually a OE part. I am trying to replicate the cup car setup. If there was an OE part, that would be nice to know. If not, I can fab my own similar to Oscar it appears.

Kenny: I also have a simple piece of aluminum cut to fit instead of a floor mat. I also have the beautiful Rennline replacement for the wood piece that sits behind the pedal cluster. It matches my Rennline pedals.

I'm not as big a fan of the diamond plate at it's more difficult to make non-skid. A flat/smooth piece of aluminum can have the 3M anti-skid tape put on it and it works great. For a track car, the plate should be screwed to the floor and not held in with velcro.

I have the wood floor plate in mine ... but the new Rennline race version that screws to the floor is pretty nice.

How much weight do you lose by removing the foam from the floors?

I didn't weigh just the stuff from the floors, but think it was about 20 lbs. IMO, it takes pretty radical efforts to make a big enough dent in the weight to see a performance difference and until you remove 200+ pounds you're not likely to notice much difference or see a big difference in lap times.

My car originally had the rear seats, AC, heater blower, CCU, and most "simple" weight reduction done and got down to 2800 lbs - all of about 200 lbs and getting to the point of a noticeable difference.

I recently had all body panels replaced (fiberglass for metal), light weight wheels, gutted every part that wasn't needed (including parking brake) and got all the way down to 2500 lbs. At that weight there is a noteable difference in performance.

I have the wood floorboard in mine as well. One of my favorite parts of my car.

On a related note, the gentleman who actually used to make these retired from Porsche not too long ago....the end of an era.

If mine ever wears out, I plan on making an exact replica, as woodworking was a hobby....before Porsches.

He would know if there is an OEM P/N for it.
