Then the rsa is the equal of an STi? And a brand new Carrera S?

I must note that the readings from the Escort G-timer use a series of accelorometers to calculate time over distance, so the accuracy is relative. The claim is that it is accurate to better than 10ths of a second.

Hi Lou,

I'm still not clear if these times are in "D" or manually using the Tip to shift through the gears?

Thanks!

Who knows. Either Car & Driver made an error in the test data or they were actually able to acheive that acceleration time. I suspect that they actually did if it was published, but it was probably an RSA with no A/C, one gallon of fuel in the tank, ideal temperature conditions, and the test driver was probably a professional hole-shot racer that weighed 95 lbs soaking wet. I know that I would not be able to duplicate that time due to my lack of launch/shifting skills and my, err, extra few pounds.

I'd like to get a G meter to get some test data on my car, but, using my seat-of-the-pants estimate, my RSA feels like its probably capable of 0-60 in about 5.0 seconds under ideal circumstances, give or take a tenth or two.

Holy crap!! Thanks for the article- while I believe that test to be an anomoly- that's serious speed from the same motor in a stock C2- I do stand corrected! 13.3 in the quarter isn't bad either....a non A/C car- nice and light.

I remember when the RS came out- I loved the fact that it had the old style whale tale, turbo rims and was cheaper to buy (of course I didn't have the $ to buy one new).

Julian, I would use the Manual mode to get the best acceleration. I would suspect that using the 3 setting will still not give you the best shift points. Perhaps moving it down to 2 to keep it second gear??? Those in the know, to acheive the best 0-60 time, is 2nd gear long enough to get you the best time or do you need to shift into 3rd gear? Kind of hard to count one Mississippi , two Mississippi and pay attention to the speed while listening to the engine and deciding when to shift.

Even if it is in 2 it will shift to 3 before any damage can be done.
