Default Pinging on hot start

Hi

Is this normal?

When I have been for a bit of a run and turn off the engine, when I restart after a short time the engine gives me one ping. (sounds like metal being flicked!?!).

This doesn't happen after it's been standing for more than a couple of hours and it's cooled down.

I haven't noticed it doing this before and it still runs like a dream.

Thanks

Rob

Check your dist. belt... if your only running on six plugs the car will ping.

Pete

If the dist. belt has gone will it do this just on hot startup or cold as well?

Not sure, but it is easy to check. Does your car ping under load when drivine normal? Might also check the knock sensors...

Hi Pete

No the car doesn't ping under load at any time, I thought about the knock sensor.

I'll check the dist. belt again, someone has mentioned it may be something to do with the exhaust setup I have (cat bypass, cup pipe, normal sec. silencer) and thinking about it it never did this before the cup pipe, something to do with warm gases meeting colder gases, expansion etc. etc. ......
