I thought that replacing my front pads had fixed this - but it's not the case and it's getting worse. Only does it under light / "normal" braking - heavy braking is fine. It's actually reached the point where it's a bit dangerous.

I am going to order new front discs next week - although I don't think mine are all that old. We'll see if that cures it.

NB - I haven't read through all the above posts, so apologies if I've repeated any!

1. I agree with Simon re 'warped' discs

2. Dave - could be tyres; was the car sitting unused for a while; could simply have 'dented' the tyres which take a couple of days to sort out.

The car isn't used daily - but usually only sits for a week or so.

I (probably) also agree with Simon. However - my thinking is this : I've already ruled out the pads (they had to be changed anyway) and discs are a consumable. I'll fit new ones - if it makes no difference then I'll stick the old ones back on, continue investigation and I haven't lost anything. It just means I have a set of front discs already the next time they need changing.

My car had also developed vibrations when I braked lightly, but under hard braking there where no problems.
I just had my front wheels changed and all vibration is gone.

The wheels changed? That's an expensive solution. Or do you mean the tires?

Tires of course
When I'm tired (wheeled!) I don't always think before I write... And English is not my native language

You've probably got a better command of it than most Americans!

By chance, I was less busy than expected at work today so I thought : rather than wait for the weekend, I'd take the afternoon off and replace the front discs.

It was ridiculously easy. From start to finish - including getting my tools out and putting them away afterwards, it took less than 90 minutes to replace both front discs. My car will never ever go to a mechanic to have the brakes replaced again.

The test drive was a success - no vibration. I guess it might take a little longer to prove that really was the cause but so far it looks good.

The only (unrelated) bad point - I've been considering replacing my head unit for an ipod compatible one. I decided that since I'd just saved myself the cost of one in labour, I'd use the test drive to go and get one fitted. However - it seems that the Alpine ipod compatible head unit is crap - you can either have a multi-changer or the ipod connection. I can already do that with the head unit I have - but I didn't want to lose the multi-changer (even though I know it's unnecessary with the ipod). Still - looks like I'll be keeping the head unit I have and ordering a £20 lead off the internet - and losing the multi-changer.

Now I just need to find something else to spend the money I've saved on!

'Now I just need to find something else to spend the money I've saved on!'

If that doesn't incur the wrath of the Porsche Gods, I'll eat my hat - prepare for something to drop off!

That's a good point - maybe I should delete that post!

Actually - the truth is, I'm going to make it even worse..... It's bonus month, and I am seriously considering blowing it all on the 964.

Blimey - your bonuses are obviously bigger than mine!

No - it would fund having the front seats recovered and the aircon fixed. But they are things I think should wait until nearer the spring. So I have a bit of a crisis - I'd like to spend the bonus on my car, but I don't know what on!

You're just jealous - my car is so perfect, I can't think of anything that needs improving.
