Default PPI SAVED ME

This is a bitter sweet tale.

Flew to check out a out of state car. It had porsche centre service history and was with a specialist porsche mechanic for cab roof repairs.

Mechanic tells me that he can tell just by looking big dollars have been spent - barrel seals, clutch maybe top end as well. Informed me the car drives really well.

I wanted to drive the car myself and have the PPI done before trying to close the deal with the owner.

Current owner is a dealer who recently purchased the car. Now here we go. PPI was protracted - after start up it was backfiring. Prior to this all else including the leak down numbers were good, between 2 & 6%.

While waiting for the miss firing to be resolved I called the porsche centre who perfomed the previous service to determine what was done. It turns out that around $16,000 USD equivilant was spent at the dealer less than 12 months ago.

Obviously I'm now thinking I may be lucky here. The backfiring continued withn the guys working for an hour or so to try and resolve the problem. Next the head wrench says drain the oil. Water and metal shavings were found, probably a bearing gone, who knows, time to walk away both disappointed that a promising deal did not eventuate but very pleased that I insisted on a PPI even though big dollars had been recently spent.

Disappointed but relieved ...

I guess big dollars does not equal good result. It depends who is doing the work and did they do a good job. Good luck with the hunt !

Slightly concerning that it seems to have been an OPC that did it though.

Could the metal shavings be from recent millwork?

Better safe than sorry, though... PPIs are worth every penny - especially when they save you from financial hardship!
