Following a request from Johnny G Pipe for a "how to" on removing the rear wiper in the 964 I thought I would detail it here. All from memory and no pics sorry.
1. flip up the cover on the rear wiper blade and remove the 13mm nut on the top of the spindle.
2.carefully "jiggle" the complete wiper arm off the spindle. There is a part of the mechanism that stays attached, so just rest the mechanism on the screen for now.
3. Remove the 22mm Nut from the spindle and the plastic covers and washers.
4. Inside the car fold down the rear seats and un-do the four screws on the front of the "parcel shelf" section.
5. Pull the parcel shelf forwards (it can be a bit tight) and disconnect the speaker wires.
6. Remove the parcel shelf section from the car.
7. Remove the two 10mm bolts from the wiper motor/mechanism and disconnect the motor power connection.
8. "twist" the wiper motor and mechanism assembly out of the screen and at the same time remove the wiper from the outside.
9. remove the little bracket that held the mechanism in place and refit the parcel shelf section, remembering to connect the speakers.
10. Fit a small (approx 1") bung in the hole in the glass.
Wiperless car.

Thanks for the write up Jay, I've been thinking of doing this mod for a while but since somebody decided to snap my rear wiper at Le Mans this year i suppose I better sort it, any chance you could post a pic of the bung that you used to fill the hole

I sure I've seen a grommet that's in two parts with a metal thread on one side that you are able to tighten on with a nut on the inside, (insert joke here) just can't remember where.

All done. Don't you love being on holiday at home?
I didn't disconnect the speakers, and took off the whole arm assembly before I started with the parcel shelf.
Rewardingly heavy and complex piece of kit to wave goodbye to - feels heavier than 2.5kg!
Last pic shows a temporary piece of tape over the hole, until I get me grommet.
Thanks again for the help..I'll copy this thread to the FAQ board if you don't mind..

Thread resurrection!
thanks for the info. My only contribution is to suggest that the wiper be in vertical orientation when attempting to “jiggle” the arm off after first bolt removal.
now a question:
Does anyone know of a plug/ cap to fill the void in rear parcel shelf after wiper assembly has been removed? Mine was broken before I started, from stereo install I presume.
