High Level Brake Light on a 964
Has anyone ever fitted one of those high level brake lights that you sometimes see on 933s?
I notice they are for sale at www.porscheshop.co.uk and I quite fancy getting one.

If you are going to buy one make sure you get the official Porsche OEM part - DO NOT buy any after market replica because the fittings (if there are any) are useless. The Porsche light fixes to the rear screen via a pair of metal brackets which are glued to the screen and then the main light bar attaches to the threaded studs on the brackets, secured by a pair of nuts. Some of the after market parts I've seen just stick on using something like Stikaflex and invariably fall off. Just my 2 cents!!

I bought a high level LED light array in a supermarket in LeMan! Guess why I was there !!!
This light had a pair of clips that hooked into the top of the rear screen rubber on the inside. The wires were thin enough to be run inside the rubber screen surround and then down under the rear parcel shelf to the wiring connector.
It works very well and has been there for a bit over six years . It satisfied the Canadian MVI inspector when I brought the car in, which made me happy!!
Took about an hour to fit.
All the best

Yes, I've got one fitted to my 965. Its proper Porsche I believe. It was fitted by the bodyshop and I think it is a fairly skilled job to do (including rear screen removal?). I was having the rubber screen surround done anyway.
I'm really pleased with it, looks good and gives me some safety in the knowledge that other road users can see me brake earlier (maybe).
Some pics of mine with it here: https://rennlist.com/forums/964-turbo-forum/284775-my-965-is-back.html

I have read Kevin's write up over and over in preparation for ordering the high level brake light. But I cannot work out if the actual light fixes to the inside our outside of the screen? I am presuming it's the outside and if so where do the electricl wires come through the screen?
Sorry for being dumb

Steve,
The light fixes on the outside of the rear screen - there are two brackets which are glued to the glass - and the wiring is fed through a hole drilled in the top side of the frame under the rubber screen surround. If you locate the hole approx 3 inches from either the left or right side the spoiler will hide the wires. DO NOT drill in the middle - the spoiler has a rubber seal which covers the central section and the wires will get in the way.

Thanks Dave. I see that Kevin put the brake light on while having his rust issue sorted and must have forgot to mention that it was necessary to drill a hole. That bit worries me but I'm sure I'll pluck up the courage when the time comes .

I have the genuine hoop spoiler from the 993 on my 964 cab that Kevin referred to above. It does look neat but apparently is difficult to fix. My bodyshop were swearing at the end of it, as the whole lid has to come off to fix it and not easy to do. Not sure on the total price as it was when I had other bodywork done to fix some rust patches. Again get the genuine which is about twice the price as the cheaper copy is not as good and more difficult to fix.
