Need some info with Blaupunkt Berlin IQR 88

My 1991 964 cabrio come along a Blaupunkt Berlin IQR 88 which has the amp under the passenger seat that I would like to keep specially due to the looks, but there are a couple of questions I would like to know and solve first:

- It seems as is the head itself does not have a built in amp, and that it outputs the signal for the amp with one of the connectors on the back, but which one and with what cables? I would like to upgrade the external amp with an after market one.

- Further, I would like to connect an Ipod or something similar, and since it has a CD input, there has to be the auxiliary connections on the connector, but which are them? I need to identify the 3-4 cables on the CD input and that one that activates the CD signal.

There are four round connectors on the back:
- CD input with 8 pins.
- AF jack with 8 pins (what is it for?).
- Remote control jack with 7 pins (what is it for?).
- Connector for data bus (what is it for?).

There is no information on the users manual, and any input, wiring diagrams or what ever help would be very much appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

The cheaper option is to go for a modern head unit with at least 40 watts a channel that can play MP3 discs and have an ipod input to the front facia. By the time you have paid out for connecting leads to swap the old way of connecting to the new format you might as well bought the new unit. It is also possible to upgrade the speakers and put a small amp under the seat (just make sure it doesn't foul the seat when moving it due to hight restrictions). I've ugraded my whole system and the only real problems have been the rear wiper support getting in the way of 6X4 Infinity parcel shelf speakers and finding somewhere to put a beefy alpine amp - I'm still looking at this problem. If you keep all the original wiring you can always reinstall if you sell the vehicle. Look at this site for wiring diagrams http://www.blaupunkt.com

Thanks for the input.

Right now I have an aftermarket Pionner head unit, CD’6 under driver seat changer, high output Alpine amp under passenger seat, new speakers, ….. a new and complete system, but I miss the looks of the original head unit.

There is no info on www.blaupunkt.com on this head unit.

I am sure that with the correct info, the original head unit use an after market amp and receive the input from a MP3 prayer win no problems and very cheap.

Then again, info is priceless….
