964 Prospector Question

964 Prospector Question
My wife and I would like to purchase a coupe or targe in the low 20K range, but could go a little higher if the car has lower than average miles and complete service records. The car will probably be driven 3-5 days per week year around (maybe less in winter) and used for some DEs. I have been visiting the 964 forum to read about 964s and asking occasional questions.
Based I what I see, we should be able to get a 90-92 C2 or 90-91 C4 with 50-100K miles for our budget. I have been focusing on cars with recent clutch replacement. on early cars, a top-end rebuild is a plus. However, I think that if 90-91 964 has not developed oil leak form cylinder head by 60K miles and has a reasonable leakdown, it was not a problem car. (any comments).
I also believe that cars built in late part of 91 were modified by Porsche to address the cylinder head leak. Is this correct? Can I tell if a car I am looking at was manufactured before or after the fix from the VIN #?
The current candidates of interest (solely based on distance to me)are a 90 C4 targa with 62K miles, a 91 C4 coupe with 100K miles (A/C issues), and a 91 C2 with 90K miles.

I'm in the same boat - looking for my first 964-- and would recommend the book Porsche 911 : Enthusiast's companion by Adrian Streather. It's got a good section on what to look for in a used 964. Good luck!
