Now for some pics of the gunk.
Note that I started to remove the Throttle Body, but ended up leaving it in place. It moves pretty freely and I was able to get in there and do a pretty good job of cleaning it. I would have rathered pull the whole of it out, but there are more parts to remove: throttle cable, cruise control cable, breather hoses, vacuum lines, and brackets. I pulled most of them, but started to run out of time, and nerves! I think next time I'll pull it all with a little help from Garrett's write up which I referenced previously in this thread.

Here's and interesting shot looking into the Throttle Body from the RHS. Quite a bit of gunk in here.
Also, I believe the item circled in green is a vacuum connection. I've read many posts suggesting that vacuum leaks can contribute to poor running. I wonder if glogged vacuum ports can do the same?!

The LHS Throttle Body. Check out the puddle of oil coming from the resonance port. I was wondering if I'd hit an oil line by mistake! This is a low point in the Intake Manifold system.

Here's a shot inside the intake port looking at the intake valve. Very clean at the bottom. I guess it gets a bit hot down there!
The upper portion of this port is also very dirty, but here it is a bit baked on. I did a bit of cleaning, but was afraid I'd drop gunk down into the valve area, so I didn't work too hard.
I'd love to push a mini drink umbrella in there, open it up, and scrub the tube. Then close the umbrella and pull the gunk out. It wouldn't work, of course, but maybe someone has a good idea.

Following are a few extra shots of things that would come apart if the whole Throttle Body were to come out.
These are oil breather lines on the LHS. The fuzzy one inf the foreground actually attaches well toward the front.

A shot of the Oil Pressure Sensor (in green). I've read where this is a bugger to replace.
Not if you remove the RHS Intake Manifold, which is the easier of the two, by far.
