Default 225/50/16 tyre on 9 x 16 rim

hello,


is this wheel and tyre combination safe?

or is 245/45/16 better........would like to stay with the 225/50/16 size if possible

The 9J rim is far too wide for a 225/50 tyre. Even the 245/45 is borderline for the 9J rim but just about OK.

The 225/50 tyre would be better on the front anyway with a 255/40 perhaps on the rear.

i am finding it very difficult to source 255/40/16 tyres here in the UK ??

Actually a 255/45 would be closer to the original rolling radius.


I see what you mean about availability. I can't see any on the web vendors I usually look at.

Steve,

You could use a 245/45 on a 9J wheel. www.mytyres.co.uk have Bridgestone SO-2 that size - N3 too.

The size is just under the original but only by a small margin so within acceptable limits.

Can you tell me where you got your 9" rear wheels from. My design 90 are only 8" wide and like you i want to put larger rear tyres on.
