This is more like a VOA (virgin oil analysis).

For me it's the least expensive prevention "tool" in the box. I do mine with every other oil change..thats every 5000 miles (for me that's about a year). I don't drive that many miles, but I want to know just what it is that is flowing thru most all of my engine parts. I'ts also a good record to have along with your other receipts if and when you decide to sell your car.

No commercial connection to any oil analysis company, btw.

Every other change is a good interval - otherwise if you have a lot of vehicles, it can get pricey. You just want to see the numbers staying fairly constant.

I like Blackstone because they give you a little narrative in the report about their impressions of the numbers and maybe some suggestions. if you want even more, you can pay a little extra to have the results sent to Terry Dyson, an independent analyst. He gets REALLY in-depth.

No affiliation with this co., I've just had good experiences with them.

Here's a page on what the different components might indicate:

I got my next report after 1800 miles (or 2900 km).

I guess copper seems to be the main one that is creeping up.

Comments?

Thanks.

The copper might or might not be significant. Blackstone says, "Copper: Brass or bronze parts, copper bushings, bearings, oil coolers, also an additive in some gasoline engine oils."

Honestly, before I drew any conclusions, I would want to know how this compares to other Porsche 3.6's, and have a couple longer cycles to look at. Maybe at the same juncture on the next change, and that probably won't happen for a while. M1 is too expensive to needlessly throw away at 5,000 KM intervals.
JMHO.

Marc,
How do you know if the copper levels are statistically different? They very well may be within the error of the measurement.

I normalized my 15w-60 TWS Castrol samples to 1710 miles so they are comparable to your 1800.
