New Clutch, while it is tore down?
Ok, I got the bad news today.........."could be just the throw out bearing, but may as well do the whole clutch” I can understand that.......but WOW! That is hard to swallow, but I love the car! So my next question is as long as the clutch is being done, should I look at doing any other service while everything is apart? Any guess of what the extra costs might be would help me decide if I should tackel that also.
Thank you so much!!

Burning Brakes
This would be a good time to address any oil leaks, or perhaps do a preventative change of the power steering pump gasket (or whatever part of the power steering pump that is prone to leaking).

While they are doing the clutch have them update all the parts of the operating shaft, and the clutch guide tube as well as the clutch release fork an bushings. These parts have been updated by porsche since your car was built.
Here is a list of all the parts with current part numbers for an 89 C4

Can you remind us readers why they're checking it in the first place? Slippage or something else? I ask because that was an identical answer to a car that wouldn't engage gears, and in the end proved to be a bent clutch pedal. All driveline components were just ducky...

Ok my car has just short of 50,000 miles. I had just had it in for a spring check and everything was fine, worked out of town for a couple of weeks and came home. Drive home for mother’s day (about 60 Miles each way). On the drive out of town, I noticed a strange sound. Didn't realize until I got home what it was. Car is fine in neutral and in gear, but as soon as I step on the pedal, I get a rubbing noise. The noise happens only when I step on the pedal and it follows the engine rpms. So I was told it was probably a throw out bearing or something. When I brought it to the dealer they said, well as long as we are in there we may as well do the whole clutch. So that is where I am at, $2500 to $2700 for a new clutch.

Bottom line, get the updated parts and have happy clutch-unrelated-problems for many miles to come...
NOTE: Todd, you might want to create a signature with the year and model (C2 or C4 // coupe or cab) of your car. The list of parts posted is for a 1989 car and I believe it varies for other model years...
