Default Fire extinguisher questions...

For those of you who have a fire extinguisher in your car, where do you have it located? In the trunk? Mounted in the passenger compartment? If mounted what kind of mount do you have? Do you like it? Where is it mounted? Does it get in the way?

Oh, and what kind do you have? Halon? Other?

I'm looking for recommendations.

The attached photo shows a unit mounted in a '96 shown at the recent PCA concours event in Tucson. I thought it looked very tasteful and was located in an easy to reach location (in front of the passenger seat.)

If you have a photo of your installed unit please post it!

Last question, any reason to choose Red over the Chrome units?

Thanks for your input!

I have a 2.5 lb Halotron extinguisher (Amerex) mounted in front of the passenger seat on a Brey Krause mount. I got red because my door pulls were red. Your passengers will need to be a little extra careful on entry and exit with it mounted in front of the passenger seat.

For street use, mounting it in front of the passenger seat is OK. BK makes some very nice H/W and now also offers a quick release mount?
However for track/DE use, the extinguisher should be within arm's reach of the driver while strapped in.
FWIW and IIRC, the Porsche factory OEM Clubsport extinguishers are red.

The set-up in the picture is the same one I have in my 964 and had in my 9442. It's a Brey Krause Mount for Powered Seats, shoulkd cost about $75. I added an adapter plate they sell as well, it tilts the extinguisher up & back towards the seat IIRC. I have a 2.5 pound Halon 1211 extinguisher (can't remember the brand) set in it. I will try to post a picture when I am on my other computer.

I have a Brey-Krause mount on the passenger seat with a 2.5 lb. Halitron unit - Halon is not legal in Canada.

The mount takes 5 minutes to install and I only put it in for a track event as it limits the passenger seat travel and gets in the way of my son's car seat.

Pete,

Does you set-up allow full front/back movement of the seat? It looks like it should. That's the drawback of the BK set-up.

This one does move up and back with the seat. I did have to put a small block under it though to keep it from bouncing. Other than that it is really solid.

Can we see a picture of the small block? Does that just sit on the carpet or did you place it under the straps?

I purchased the BK mount for use on non powered seats, and want to install on my GT3 seats. I am a little unclear of exactly where it should mount. Instructions and vendor don't really help. Anyone have any experience with the GT3 seats?
