Just clicked a pic of my car in the spray booth this morning after spending the weekend drying. Just waiting for the ArmorCoat to arrive from Germany and the remaining ancilliaries to be painted and I might be in with a chance to get her back for the end of next week. Can't wait. It's been gone for nearly 2 months now and I'm getting withdrawal symptoms quite bad now!!!

Oh My God! That is some Seriously Shiny paint!!!

 

So did you get a close look at it? I am about 90% likely to get mine painted over the winter although I still haven't decided whether to stay with white or change colour and copy you. I am using your car to decide whether I go to the same place!

I had a pretty good look at it. There are one or two spots made by dirt which they assure me will be polished out. Bear in mind that picture was taken in the spray booth - so the finish is literally straight out of the spray gun. No attempt had been made thus far to polish anything.

If you are contemplating using the same place I can only praise them. Their enthusiasm is nothing short of my own - you'd think they were painting their own car!! The original paint job on my car was often commented on as being of good quality - but this is chalk and cheese!! These guys have painted places the other guy didn't know existed.

They are also very enthusiastic about the ArmorCoat anti-stone chip protection. They are importing it from Germany and experimenting with it with a view to putting it on the sills and bumper to prevent the usually inevitable chips.

I'm hoping to have it operational for the 21st meet so you'll be able to have a look yourself.

Just curious. Why not take off the lower facia panel and paint separately?

 

Because it's a fibreglass aftermarket part which, in common with pretty much all fibreglass parts, has to be bonded on to the body rather than fixed with plastic clips like the original Porsche parts. If it were painted first the bonding process along with the finishing of the "gap" would mean doing damage to the already painted part of the body.

We decided to paint the bumpers seperately since we managed to adapt the fitting so they could be screwed on rather than being bonded (as they were originally).

Good question though!!

Have you stuck with the trophy yellow or is it now speed yellow?

I stayed with Trophy Yellow. I really like it as a colour and it would have been too much hassle to change it again. Having said that, they have done all the door reveals etc, and it probably wouldn't have been that bad to change it but I think going to a "standard" Porsche colour might have ruined the uniqueness of it as it is. Had I been doing the colour change from white I might have contemplated Speed Yellow but as it is I was happy with Trophy Yellow.
