Default I feel dirty and wrong.

I took my car to the drag strip Friday night and I promise I'll never do it again. I ran the car twice. The first run I either spun the tires through first or slipped the clutch. I'm not sure which, I don't even want to know. The second run I let the clutch out a little easier. The car bogged down a little then took off. It ran a 14.2 at 101mph and a 14.1 at 101mph. The car has a stock engine with a chip and runs great. The weight is certainly under 2800# I'm sure the car is capable of faster runs but it just sems too abusive to me.

what is a drag strip? is it where those "tuning" guys hang out and do races just in straight lines?

under 2800 lbs? What have you done to it? I just weighed mine with 1/2 tank of gas. Most of my interior is ripped out of the car, and I have Corbeau racing seats (17 lbs each), no carpets, no spare, no rear seats, etc. Just curious.

The car wasn't made for it : )

The car is an R S America. I weighed it last year at Road America on the PCA scale. It came in at 2854 with and 1/2 tank of gas spare tire, old fly wheel, carpet, floor mats and stock seats. The car now has a light weight flywheel, Recaro's and the spare was removed along with the carpet and mats.

It's certainly quicker than mine. We compared each other's car when I was grabbing the old springs & dampers. Nice meeting you! I will concurr that slipping the clutch is a seriously stinky affair.

I do feel dirty and I feel wrong. But I can't be the first person to run a 911 at a drag strip. Besides I think the only REAL abuse is coming of the line. After that I didn't power shift or over rev the car. But that said, my drag racing days are over. Unless of course I get my hands on another Regal T-Type some day.

I forgot to mention, the coolest car there was a Noble M400, it ran a 12.1. The guy said he was going to take it easy.

So I am not the only person that has had that thought of taking it to a drag strip. Of course I have yet to act on the evil action.

Let's see here.....

If we drive our cars fast on the street, we are unsafe hooligans.

If we drive our cars on the strip we are untouchable heathens.

I, for one, bought my car to be driven and that I do. I drive the &%$# out of it every day. I'm trying my best to wear this thing out so that I can rebuild it and have another go at the process.

Hope this helps.

One nice thing about the drag strip is you get a 1/4 mile trap speed. From the trap speed and the weight of the car you can get a fairly good hp rating. Its the poor mans dyno.

Epping is not that far away if you're interested in running your CUP against my RSA. I'll donate the clutch labor...
