Default Stupid jack stand question....

I have 2 jack stands for the front brake job and want to know exactly how to position the jack stands. I want to remove both wheels at the same time. Also can I place the floor jack under a certian point in the front middle and jack the car or do I need to do each side individually?

Thanks

use a floor jack on the rear, and it will lift the front so you can put the jack stands under the front.

See http://p-car.com/diy/jack/ at Robin's great DIY site. Browse around the site for other great tips.

There is no picture of the front jacking/jack stand plate, but it is just to the rear of the front wheel wells. Just like the rear jacking/jack stand plate (photo at site) is just forward of the rear wheel wells.

Jack up using the rear point, the front wheel will also lift, place stand in the front, and repeat for the other side.

I learned the hard way when I replaced my front pads. After raising the back end, I couldn't understand why the jack stands wouldn't fit under the front jack points. I had the back end up pretty high off the ground.

Then I realized that after having the car lowered recently, I needed to put some boards under each tire to get the starting height back up a bit. Also, my jack stands are a little taller to start with.

I would suggest you don't use jackstands with the axle cradle. You need a stand with a flat top. The axle cradles will possibly damage your jack points. You need either a jackstand with a flat top or or something in between the stand and the jack point that creates a flat surface. I learned the hard way. Another little Porsche idiosyncrasy. Default Jack pads

I have found that those rubber hockey pucks work well for protector pads. Go Sens Go !!! Doug
