Well... I am into my second windshield and looks like there will be a third...

Driving to work yesterday a rock hit the windshield and cracked it...

Does it say "Sigla" on the lower left (driver's in the USA) side?

There are two versions of the windshield sold in the USA. The one with tinting on top retails for ~$900 and the one without tinting that retails for ~$500. On the cheaper windshield the dealer cost might be as low as $275 so $475 installed wouldn't be unheard of. $475 was about what I was offered but that was for an "OEM-equivalent" and without the adhesive.

Did you happen to notice if they glued the windshield into place?

Yep, says Sigla, and it's tinted. And they glued it in placed - I watched him do it, especially after hearing about all the rust issues! I didn't want any of those!

On insurance: My insurance agent sells me zero deductible on all glass; it's separate from liability and colllision insurance. Over the years, I've had a lot of windshields replaced (including the p-car's for ~$900) and several repaired. None of them cost me a cent. Ask your insurance agent about zero-deductible for glass.

I had mine done this week. Tinted glass direct from Porsche (plus the seal) was almost $900. The auto glass guy had to trim nearly 3/8 of an inch off the drivers side for a correct fit. Installation was another $350.

FYI...I'm going to get my glazed windshield changed out next week...sigla glass, new seal, adhesive for $985.07 . My insurance requires damage to the windshield before considering replacement ( I got $500 deductible -USAA) so my wife offered to put a hammer thru the glass for $485.07..... what a gal!

Anyway, this time next week I should be able to see where I'm going....

I live in an area where the one shop that can align my car after I put on the H&R's will charge $500-600 and they've never heard of "corner-balancing". I've got to take it out of my area (about 5 hr. drive) to get into civilization. We got Starbucks but no alignment shops that can do a lower car.

The $985 price includes antenna and tint.

Water eventually got under mine and rust formed on the cowl. The rusted section was cut out and new metal was added. Not cheap -

They're charging me $127 for a new seal...I didn't price it else where, figuring it was best if they bought thru their own porsche supplier and deal with any mismatch, etc. or later leakage and have them come back and say that the seal was incorrctly supplied.

I can't wait to get a new windshield...think of the money I'll save on all the windex I won't be using trying to keep the old one clean...a couple of dead bugs pretty much ruined the minimal view.

Ok, been a few years, but today I just changed the windshield on my race car... and OH MY... when I first got in and drove, I honestly thought I was driving a car that had no windshield - it is that much a difference! Those of you who silently lament the pitted windshield, do yourself the $486.64 favor and replace it!! I was surprised that the cost had not increased significantly in over two years - $395.95 for the Sigla windshield, $60 labor to have the guy come to my office to install it in the parking lot, with $30.69 tax.... now I am no longer blinded driving into any kind of light source!

Here's what this thing looked like from within...

Another ugly windshield shot of a "friend of the family" - a newer C4 Widebody (mine's faster!)...
