I've just had the Alpine 9850Ri fitted. Theres a wire out the back of it to the glove box and when the iPod is plugged in you get the full ipod functionality on the head unit. It allows full speed access to playlists, songs, artists etc.
It also has the added benefit of miraculously fixing the annoying rattle coming from the passenger door
Before fitting I thought all my speakers needed replacing but the sound is 100% improved.

nope.

Checked manual, says this:
Ai-NET Connector
Connect this to the output or input connector of other
product (CD Changer, Equalizer, etc.) equipped with Ai-
NET.
NOTE: You can input TV/video sound by connecting an optional Ai-
NET/RCA Interface cable (KCA-121B) to this component.

Will that allow ipod input assuming I have the right cable(s)? Seems like it should...

UPDATE:
Found my own answer. If anyone else has this series Apline head unit, you can buy a KCA-121B cable for about $16. This converts this input to a L/R RCA input.
It does, however, take away the ability to add a CD changer.
See ya!
Not sure if this was a major coincidence but the first time I used the above cable, my iPod's left channel was toast. Worked all night in the car then tried it with headphones the next day and poof. Seems odd since this is input only... I think... anyhow, that's what happened.
