Default higher spring rate

RL'ers,

I am interested in those of you who hit the track, what spring rates are you running and with what dampers? I have Bilstien HD and I want to raise my spring rate a bit (from H&R green rate whatever it is).

What is everyone running for spring rates? Do I need to revalve my dampers?

Slightly different car, but for reference, I ran ~600# front and 800# rear in my Turbo 3.6.

Thanks Jupe!

Anyone else? Anyone revalve?

Oh, sorry, I should have also mentioned that I was using the JIC Cross Competition setup. 38D runs similar spring rates with revalved Bilstein RSR struts.

I also have the mid range JIC-Cross suspension (8 & 10 kg?) and think it's just great. Eventually I'll migrate to Moton's but I'm not at the skill level that warrants it yet.

Revalve would be required if changing springs to much more firm. I agree, roughly 600/800 lbs for ordinary mortals and track use. More for really good drivers.

On my C4, I've raced with stock rates, 300/450, and 525/800. The percentage difference of the rates I've used (65.6%) is fantastic for a C4 - the car is so well balanced... it's fantastic! Understeer, what understeer??!

I revalved the shocks when I went from the 300/450's to the 525/800's (I use the LEDA's - sweet shock!).

It's a tremendous setup - I wouldn't do it any differently if I had to do it again!

Interesting how Garrett you are running a bit softer in the front that the C2's. Makes sense why to me.. oversteer/C4 and all. Glad I asked! I will call Bilstien and see if they advise a revalve with a 525/800 setup and see.

kgorman - Looking at revalve Bilstiens too - I have been told 750/1000 for my C4.

More only concern with the Bilstien's is that there is no adjustability. Not even sure if that is an issue, though. Bilstien's seems like a good setup, and less $$$ then Motons, Cross, etc. Any one with the revalved Bilstien that wishes they had something adjustable?? From what I have heard, most folks with adjustable setups leave it alone once its initially set.

Garrett - any issues with the LEDAs. Do you run the Sports, or the double adjustable?

LEDA's have been great. I actually do adjust them, since I drive the car to the track, crank the shocks so they're tight, do the racing, then loosen them for the drive home. Otherwise I'd get too beat up on the drive home. Also, some tracks are bumpier than others, so it's nice to be able to adjust them. I have the single-adjustable ones with no remote canister.

I find 457/685 main springs with 140/226 tender springs a nice street and track set up on a C2 USA Cup.

Garrett, what brand of springs? Do you guys think I need a CB and Align after swapping springs only?

I have hypercoil springs. I do my own alignment, but the camber on the front, and overall ride height is all that's changed when the suspension is swapped out...

Ok, so I am just trying to gauge the costs of going to firmer springs. So there are the springs, and I can do the install, but then there is $500 for cb and align. Sheez, perhaps I just need to get myself the gear and start doing it myself. Do you have scales and such Garrett? Thanks all for the replies. It's very helpful.
