Mike in case you are not sure, H5's are the standard N. America lights on a 964 (they have little DOT mandated nubs on the len's for the aiming machines) while H4's are standard on European cars (and doi not have the little nubs) and a worthwhile upgrade.

You have standard US H5 headlights.

A simple upgrade to H4's (Euro) headlights would be simple and a big improvement at night. H4's have a seperate lens assembly, so you can replace just the lens if it should get a stone chip/crack.
FWIW, I installed H4's in my 94 RSAmerica and was very pleased with the results.

It's been discussed MANY times (fairly simple DIY) and you can buy complete kits from several sources:

(these can be painted to match your body color, if you don't like the look of chrome rings. I had Eric at www.bumperplugs.com paint my primered H4 rings Midnight Blue metallic....as always, a perfect match)

Mike ,
When I brought my C4 over from the UK, a pair of H4 LHD lenses had me legal .

Good summer project to change from those H5 things.

Good luck

Geoff

I'd go with what the others have said - use the need for a new lens as an excuse to upgrade to H4's.

Well a new bosch H5 lens is about $140.
A new H4 system will go for about $450 for both sides including labor. Many who upgrade to H4 also upgrade the harness and put in a relay so they can use 80/100 bulbs which are not road legal.
The H4 beam is better than the H5 in terms of pattern and spread. A cheaper alternative is to replace the lens and also the bulbs. I liked the Philips Vision+50 for hte H5.In 50/65 spec, the H4 bulb has 1500lumens vs 1200 for the H5 at hi beam 45/65 at DOT standards.

After you repair it... You should check into Invisigard Headlight Film. The rocks bounce right off!
