Default Turtle Pictures (not ugly anymore!)

Ok, I picked up the Turtle on Thursday afternoon and headed to Sears Point/Infineon to go for a sedate Sunday drive...

My first reaction to seeing the completed car was a simple "DAMN!". It was a good thing. The car is beautiful and runs a 'tad faster than you might expect out of a Turtle. I took the digital camera with be, but as fate would have it, the battery was dead and I had not packed a spare. The good news is that David Wong was there to photograph the events (TrackMasters on Friday and PCA/GGR on Saturday and Sunday). Some of David' photos of me follow.

Top of Turn 2:

Turn 11:

Heading down the carousel (Turn 6):

Just putt-putting along

Eating a Miata for lunch:

One down and one to go ...

So, some promised information. If you strip out most everything you get to about 2500 lbs. The car is 2535 with 1/8th of a tank of gas and no driver weight added. The body work came from Getty Design and was installed by the folks at Jerry Woods. The old paint work was in sad shape and the repainted Amazon Green was almost too nice to take out onto the track - it's been broken in now. The guys at Jerry Wodds did an incredible job and Rich Walton came out Friday and Saturday to ensure all was going well. It did and I still haven't stopped smiling.

Oh, I have never managed to get to an event at Sears Point before. My loss as it is superb and that's an understatement. I have no comparison to the "old" Turtle since I'd not run there before, but I was running 1:54's on Saturday as I got used to it.

Rennlist was very well represented, there were at least a dozen of us there!

Looks great Tom. That Amazon looks darker than normal. Was it a cloudy day?

Since you asked nicely (and I'm still smiling)

A very fine *** (even if I'm biased):

Do you think they put the name/logo there on purpose?

Dang, you can see the sway bar connection down there:

One more, the exit of turn 7:

Jerry: (I know you're out there) it doesn't look like I have one of you as a passenger. For the rest of you - buy some excess parts from the Turtle and you too can have a slow ride around the track.

Hawk: The slicks are 10.5" in front and 12" in back on 11 & 13" wheels (I'm finding out just how different bias ply are from radials). While some folk ranted that I would never be able to heat them up as they were too big, I can report they heat up just fine.

Chris: I asked that it be painted Amazon Green (as it was). I have no confirmation of the actual color/paint used but I don't care as it beautiful - blue in the dark, green in the full sun and something in between in anything else. Friday and Saturday were cloudless sun, upper 60's and wonderful.

One other tidbit: the car is now well below RS ride height. The front jack point is about 2" off the ground (my jack with 3.5" clearance comes nowhere near fitting under it). While we worried about bump-steer and having to go to EVO parts, I can report only minor issues. The guys at Jerry Woods did a great job setting it up.

Tom, if you get to the WI/ILL area, let me know. I'll meet you. I'd love to see the Turtle in person!
